Statement: Engage China Applauds Nomination of Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. as U.S. Ambassador to China

WASHINGTON, DC - Engage China, a coalition of eleven financial services trade associations united in support of high-level engagement with China with an emphasis on greater market-opening reform and financial services modernization in China, released the following statement on the nomination of Jon Huntsman, Jr.

"Engage China commends President Obama's decision to nominate Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. to serve as U.S. ambassador to China. Governor Huntsman will bring extensive experience and understanding of the region to this critical post.

"The U.S.-China relationship is one of the most important bilateral trade relationships in the world, and America needs a leader like Governor Huntsman to foster and grow this important partnership. Mr. Huntsman's previous work as a deputy trade ambassador and his experiences working and living in Asia will prove invaluable to this post.

"Members of the Engage China coalition encourage the Senate to confirm Governor Huntsman as U.S. ambassador to China, and we look forward to working with Mr. Huntsman in this important role."
